A Premier Philadelphia Yearly Event
Each year while Punxsutawney Phil remains true to the fine Pennsylvania tradition of shadow checking on February 2nd, another great state tradition takes place in Philadelphia on or around the same day. Just as Phil’s expertise gathers the attention of weather enthusiasts, The Emerald Groundhog Day Investment Forum captures the interest of investment professionals throughout the country.
Each year Emerald holds its Groundhog Day Investment Forum on or around February 2nd, showcasing both public and private companies. An event that started in 1994 with just under 100 attendees and less than a dozen presenting companies now registers in excess of 300 investment professionals yearly, who come to hear presentations from over 20 companies. What makes this forum unique is that the smaller size company gets the opportunity to have its story heard by successful investment professionals. Many of the companies who present do not receive a lot of research coverage and Emerald has provided a "forum" where their growth stories can be told and their niche publicly defined. Emerald has been doing extensive research on companies of any market capitalization size through its intense fundamental bottom-up research approach well before the introduction of the Forum.
The focus of the annual Emerald Groundhog Day Investment Forum is to provide smaller companies the opportunity to speak publicly about their accomplishments and continued plans for growth. This Forum differentiates Emerald from other firms by keeping our original vision to recognize smaller, unique companies that are typically under the radar screens of industry analysts. Since many of the presenting companies are sparsely covered by Wall Street’s analysts, we believe those investment professionals who attend the Forum gain valuable insight to industry trends and the companies playing key leadership roles.
The Forum also features keynote speakers who provide very timely reviews and explanations of current issues. Some recent former speakers include Treasury Secretary, John Snow, Pennsylvania Governor, Ed Rendell, and co-founder of The Street.com and host of CNBC's 'Mad Money', Jim Cramer to name a few.
An additional highlight of the Forum is the presentation of the Emerald E-3 awards. The E-3 award was created to recognize the best in entrepreneurial excellence. Through an intensive multi-faceted process Emerald identifies corporate leaders from both the public and private sector. For more on this year's recipients click here.
